WARREN SHAULL

     WARREN SHAULL owns and conducts one of the attractive and well stocked retail grocery stores of Charlotte and has risen to no little prominence in local business circles, controlling an excellent trade and being known as a reliable and progressive merchant. Mr. Shaull is a native of the old Buckeye state, having been born in Seneca County, Ohio, August 31, 1853, and being a son of David L. and Catherine (Puffenberger) Shaull, who were born in Virginia, of German lineage, removing to Ohio and later to Missouri, in which latter state they continued to reside until 1866, when they removed to Eaton County, Michigan, their arrival within its borders dating back to the thirty-first of May of that year. the father purchase sixty-five acres of wild land, and reclaimed the same to cultivation, being ably assisted by his son Warren, whose name initiates this paragraph. In 1900 the parents removed from the farm to the city of Charlotte, where they have since maintained their home. They became the parents of ten children, all of whom are living except one. Warren is the eldest; Rebecca is the wife of A. O. Berg, of Detroit, Ana is the wife of William Newton, of charlotte; Isabella is the wife of Jerry Cox, of Augres, Arenac county; James, likewise resides in Augres; Scott, is a resident of Marquette, this state; Grove, resides in Augres; Etta, died at the age of twenty-two years; Blanche, is the wife of Harper Krebs, of Charlotte, and George who also resides in this city. Warren Shaull received his educational training in the public schools, having been thirteen years of age at the time of the family removal to Eaton County, where he was reared to manhood on the home  farm. In 1880 he engaged in the confectionery business in Charlotte, beginning operation on a modest scale, and he later added a stock of groceries, being careful in his methods and plans and sparing no effort to meet the demands of his customers, so that he has been able to build up a very prosperous business, having one of the leading groceries of the city. In April, 1906, Mr. Shaull purchased the old home farm, which he will cultivate. In politics he is a stanch Democrat, and he is affiliated with the Masonic fraternity and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, while both he and his wife are members of the Universalist church. In 1882 Mr. Shaull was united in marriage to Miss Georgia Persons, who was born on a farm south of Charlotte, being a daughter of George Persons, who took up his residence in this county in the early '50's, here passing the remainder of his life. Mr. Persons died February 11, 1888, and his widow passed away October 15, 1892. Mr. and Mrs. Shaull have no children.
